As a previous owner of an 9 x 12 intuos2 tablet with a number of years of use, I ended up ordering the 12 x 19 Intuos3 on a whim. I'd read some reviews that said owns of the Intuos2 model really didn't need to upgrade. But I have to say I'm glad I did.
First thing you notice, is its massive size, it takes up quite a bit more space than my old 9 x 12, but mirrors my 20in iMac's exstended screen much better. Second I immediately noticed an improved level of sensitivity, which allows for much more control and line quality. Third Wacom has gotten rid of the strip of commands along the top of the main drawing area and replaced it with several programmable buttons and a scrolling pad on each side of the tablet. What I'm finding is I use these much more often than the old setup.
Unquestionably I've found this tablet to be an essential new addition to my digital toolkit.

If you are an artist with a skilled hand, this is a great tool. I can draw directly on it and the image appears on the screen. A smaller tablet works for most software applications, but the larger size is important to me because it allows me to trace my larger works as well as giving me the freedom to move around the page. If most of your artwork is done with the clicking of amouse, then don't get a large pad. But get a pad. It is great to go between a mouse and a stylus since the stylus gives you more drawing options. But, as I said, if you are a drawing artist, you will love this tablet. If the price is holding you back - get over it. Be good to yourself. A mouse will never draw what your hand can.
