5 out of 5 stars Where are these negative reviews coming from?   December 26, 2009
George Swing (Ventura County, California)
I'm going to start off by saying I have the black and white chord ear phones, and they were bought in late 2009, as in the latest generation. I also bought these because I wanted earphones that were comfortable, high sound quality, and low profile.

Ok, so, these ear phones are awesome. I haven't had a single problem that has been described in the other reviews. To me it seems people were reviewing the service they received from the store they bought it from rather than the actual product...

Pros:
-Comfortable as hell. When I wore the standard, apple ear phones, they'd begin to hurt to wear after 2-3 hours, these have been more comfortable than those ear phones ever were, and they've been on for 3-4 times as long.

-The Bass! I'm listening to songs that I've listened to hundreds of times but all of a sudden I can notice the bass drum keeping pace in an otherwise quiet part of a song, or a bass guitar doing a riff behind the lead guitar that I had no idea was there.

-The box says it doesn't have noise canceling... but it sure has some canceling qualities.

-Don't disturb people sitting next to you! With my old earphones it seemed like it would project the music outward, rather than in but with these like 96% of the noise is contained, which is good if you're in class(Not like I would do it...), in a car, or on a plane and you don't want to wake up or annoy whoever it is sitting next to you.

Cons:
-Exercising: I could see these might fall out if you're doing something with a lot of turbulence like running, but I'm not sure, they feel snug to me but then again I'm just typing a review on amazon from my computer.

-Black/white chord: It looks tacky, I guess I just have to get used to it, I'd prefer just white or just black.

-The Headphone Jack: I just don't really like it. I hope the reader realizes I'm just nitpicking now...

Conclusion: I don't see what everyone's big beef with these is, they seem like a great set of earphones for me, the student who listens to a lot of music and watches a lot of movie.

Watch me eat my words, these will probably break apart and catch on fire tomorrow.

4 out of 5 stars I'm Spoiled Now!   December 10, 2009

I LOVE these headphones , they are the best one's I've ever owned. The sound is amazing, inside or outside. I love that I couldn't hear myself sing too, lol! However, I've had them for about a year and a half and the wire is messed up. I was so bummed and now I need to find a new pair, the thing is...I got spoiled by these and can't find any as good. Darn it if only they lasted longer they'd be perfect.

4 out of 5 stars Great sound, but eartips sometimes fall off   November 25, 2009
D. J. Nardi (Washington, DC)
I like the sound on these headphones (for the price at least!). Unlike most other iPod headphones, these last for more than a few months. Theseear tips fit pretty conformably in your ear and don't fall off much while they're in your ears. The only problem I had is that the rubber ear tips on the earphones don't attach securely, and as such they sometimes fall off, especially when I pull them out of my pocket. I've already lost 4 for various reasons and have had to buy replacement ear tips. Not a huge problem, but it's something Bose could easily fix.

5 out of 5 stars Best sound ever!   November 8, 2009
Philip A. Carr (NJ USA)
First I should say that I have just purchased these headphones so I don't have any idea of how long they are going to last, or what kind of reliability, endurance comfort or stuff like that they are going to offer. I CAN say however that I have tried all manner of in-ear headphones and the SOUND of these just blows ALL the others away. When I tried the Bose I just stood in the store with a stupid grin on my face and my mouth open in disbelief that such a sound could come from them. In-ear headphones do NOT have the best reputation, probably deservedly, but these sound incredible, the bass especially, which always is the first to suffer in this mini tonal spectrum. My wife has another very reputable brand but she also could not believe how good the Bose sounded.
I just hope that these survive the 'usual' treatment as I really can't imagine using any other, INCLUDING the Bang&&Olufson ones, glamorously reviewed and priced way above the Bose. The white ones supplied with the iPods always seemed to get slammed by many users, unfairly I felt, but the Bose makes them sound like a tinny radio!
I like the laniard that Bose supply with the headphones as well. It helps ensure that the weight of the cord doesn't pull the buds out of your ears. There is a clip to fasten the cord to your shirt or coat or whatever. It's strong and does a good job of supporting the wire. I thought the design of the Bose was pretty good really. They are comfortable and fit well (you are offered three different sized pairs of gel buds which attach nicely and easily to the actual earpieces). You won't want to parachute wearing them or go hand-gliding or anything, but I would imagine under normal use they would remain in your ears pretty well. I love cycling and this is one of my tests. Compared with others I have had though these seem very stable and still sound good whilst riding along (wind noise doesn't affect them too much). I don't know how people have lost ear bud gels or broken the wire as they claim in their reviews. Maybe they skateboard wearing them!
I loved the built in microphone too. It records in good quality for voice memos and also features a pause, next song, previous song function. Very useful if you have an iPod touch like me and want to use Skype for phone messages. The headphones also come with different size jack plugs to enable use with different size phone jack sockets. A neat feature I thought.
I think the only criticism I can level at these headphones is they have a high impedence which means they take a lot of volume output to sound good compared to some. The plus side of this is that you are less likely to damage your hearing, but some songs are quieter than others so you have to pump up the volume a bit. More sensitivity would have been appreciated. Still, I think they would be loud enough for 'normal' use - not in loud backgrounds though! They are NOT noise cancelling so don't expect this. They wouldn't sound too good on an aircraft for example. Overall I would strongly recommend them to anyone who wants great sound at a safe listening level.
I hope to be using them for a long time to come.

1 out of 5 stars Ok Sound, Crap Duribility   September 3, 2009
Aaron Chung (Los Altos, CA USA)
Ive owned the product for six months when they broke. That equates to 15 dollars a month for slightly better sounding headphones, but I'll discuss about sound quality later. I mean for $100 US Dollars, I was expecting something that would blow me away or at least last 2+ years. It was a loose connection where you connect the headphone itself to the headphone jack. And the worst thing about it was that I couldn't find neither the box that had come with the product, nor the receipt...so Bose, being the kind people they were, said that they wouldn't do anything other than reduce the price on me purchasing another pair. Its sort of like the feeling when American soldiers in Vietnam got when their newly introduced M16's jammed while in battle. Something this day and age should last a lot longer than a few months, except the difference with the headphones are that they aren't repairable

Ergonomics are also crap. those ear-tips always fall off whenever you are mobile. You loose them, and you're going to have to pay 5 dollars for some more cheap ear-tips worth $.02 that will start to fall off in a week.

As for sound quality, Its a step up from the ipod headphones (which aren't THAT bad, BTW). However for this price i was shocked at how little the improvement was. I got a slightly fuller sound with these headphones, but that improvement came with bloated bass with none of the low, deep bass that you hear in rap such as Tupac and Biggie. The treble is no better than the ipod headphones, and is sometimes muffled by the bloated bass. I would prefer them over a pair of skull candies, and maybe even buy them again if they were around $20-30, but for 100 dollars, Save your money and buy the Denon AH-C551K In-Ear Headphone. The sound quality is a lot smother and clearer, and the bass is much deeper. They, by far, blow these Bose phones away. They are sound isolating and will save your ears from bleeding in public. The wire is much better and wont break from daily use. Plus, they're only 50 bucks To sum it up, Bose headphones suck. I was disappointed from Bose because in the past I had bought a pair of Bose 301 Bookshelf speakers and they were absolutely fantastic and filled the room with euphony. I was so happy with that product that i bought these. Bose, stick to bookshelf speakers, and throw your "ultra-treble" Acoustimass and unreliable In Ear products away.
