Product Description
The "Sport" combines precision manufacturing, performance, and comfort unlike any other ear-hook style earphone. High quality speaker elements are protected in virtually indestructible aluminum casings and 3 sizes of silicone ear cushions are included to ensure the best fit to isolate noise. The balanced, full range of sound is complemented by the comfort of the ultra-flexible, pinch-free hooks that are barely noticeable when worn. 360 degrees of rotational movement enhances ear hook comfort to the wearer, or just take the hooks off for added versatility of use. Unisex.

2 out of 5 stars Low Price for Poor Quality   December 30, 2008
After my Nike Vapor Adjustable Sport Headphones died after six months, I looked for an affordable and functional replacement to fit in my ears and wrap around them for extra stability while exercising. The description for the Sound-Squared "SPORT" earphones sounded great and I liked the concept of different sized attachments depending on your personal ear shape/size. However, I was quite disappointed when the wrap-around section popped off the wire after about two days of casual usage. Looking at the product image now, it even looks low end. "Oh well," I thought as I tried to fit the black part over the wire again. I ended up needing to reattach that multiple times, in addition to the ear cover attachments. Maybe that's why there are three pairs included.

All in all, the sound quality was pretty decent with good bass for the price, but in practical terms, the earbuds didn't fit well and the wrap-arounds didn't help. Maybe I received a defective model, but I am returning back to the Nike Vapors. Even if they only last me six months again, at least I can listen to my music in comfort. And from this experience, I'm more willing to pay a higher price for better quality from a trustier brand.

5 out of 5 stars My hero!   December 29, 2008
As any husband soon realizes, marriage is a relentless and patently unfair state of wifely over-expectations, so the potential for banishment to the proverbial doghouse is also a constant specter of fear much like the dropping of the Big One during the Cold War. Therefore, scoring the infrequent point or two is both an occasion for a deep sigh of relief and one not to be undervalued.

Now, my wife visits the gym more often than is reasonable. While there, she revs up the elliptical machine like one whose hair is on fire and running towards the nearest water spigot. The resulting image is positively ferocious: arms and legs piston in a blur, the head is thrust forward and jerks side-to-side, the face is set in a grimace of determination last seen on an Ironman triathlete, and the audio leads to the iPod swing wildly as telephone wires in a windy maelstrom. It's positively intimidating. (My imperturbable work-out on the elliptical is regally placid by comparison; I barely break a sweat as I attend to the Cooking Channel on the overhead monitor.)

The point I'm trying to make here concerns the spouse's earphones rendered problematic by the strain. If using foam earbuds, they absorb perspiration that blocks sound. If made of plastic, they fall from her ears causing a break in stride as she shoves them back into place with a few choice words. Thus, when cautiously asked what she wanted for Christmas, she threw down the gauntlet: "Earphones that stay put and don't get blocked with unladylike sweat. Don't blow it."

Doing an Amazon search, I found several alternatives, all of which had ratings spanning the stellar spectrum of 1 to 5. However, the product listing for the SOUND-SQUARED SPORT EARPHONES, on brief inspection, seemed to attract the fewest whiners relative to the number of completely satisfied users. Therefore, I purchased a pair and placed it, along with the diamond tiara, in the glove box of the luxury, hybrid sedan beribboned and parked under the 50-foot Christmas tree. Well, maybe the last two gifts were part of the wife's wishful thinking; she can't have everything, though I dare not say so.

On December 26th, it was off to the gym. (If the facility was truly dedicated to fitness, it would've been open Christmas Day. What a con.) While I observed well out of harm's way, the wife jabbed the "on" button of the music player fitted with the new earphones, set the latter in place much like an F-16 pilot dons a helmet, kick-started the elliptical, and took off at her usual demented pace.

Forty-five minutes later, I watched with some unease as she dismounted and strode purposefully with narrowed eyes over to my vantage point on the stair-stepper.

"You know", she pronounced breathlessly, "These are just the ticket. They don't slip off no matter what. And they're comfortable, and I can hear all tones to perfection. My hero! I'll even treat you to one of those revolting double-cheeseburgers."

My relief was almost palpable; life in good grace, however fleeting, was achieved. I'm good for another twenty-four hours, minimum.

4 out of 5 stars An excellent pair of earphones for $25   December 21, 2008
I bought these earphones as I began my freshman year of college in New York City. Let me first comment on how great they sound: I can hear things in songs I have NEVER noticed before. The bass is there but doesn't overpower the rest of the sound, and everything sounds crisp and clear. These earphones are probably the best ones you can find for only $25. I would have given them five stars, but I've had a couple of problems. The original pair that I purchased stopped working after about a month of use - one earphone just completely stopped producing sound. Fortunately, I was able to message Earphones Plus about the problem and they offered to send me a new pair in exchange for the broken one for free. The second problem is that the wires in one of the earphones in my newer pair got disconnected from the earphone. I think I may be able to fix them with a soldering iron, but I plan to order a new pair from Earphones Plus anyway. I used these earphones almost every single day, whether it was while riding the subway or working out at the gym. I even dropped them while on the elliptical machine and even though they got scratched up and probably would've broken if they were made of plastic, they worked fine afterwards. I have also flown quite a bit this semester (my mother works for an airline so I fly free) and even though they are not advertised as "noise-blocking" earphones, they are pretty effective in blocking outside noise, and I don't have to turn my iPod up to a ridiculously high volume on the plane just to be able to hear my music. Despite my issues with their functionality, I love these earphones and am definitely not hesitating one bit to purchase another pair. Considering how heavily and frequently I use them, I would say they are very durable and worth the price.

2 out of 5 stars Did not like the ear hook   December 20, 2008
I've use these ear phones for over a week now and I'm extremely disappointed by the ear hook. The hook separates from the ear phone too easily. A few times, I've had to back track and look for the hook when I had to remove the phones from my ears, but did not have time to secure it in my jacket pocket or backpack. The other problem is the hook is plastic and not rounded so it hurts after a while. The hook should have been set with a round mold. The hook isn't flexible enough to assist in keeping a tight fit to seal out sound. I have to slightly tug and hold the cord to isolate outside sound and increase the bass. It also takes me a while to "hook" my ear and insert the buds in the canal.

The sound is pretty good.

4 out of 5 stars Good, not Great   July 25, 2008

From all the other reviews, i thought i was getting the sound of $50 headphones for half the price. but they do not sound like $50 headphones, they sound like $25 headphones. I got what i paid for, but the other reviewers gave me false hopes that they would perform better than a typical $25 pair.

the bass is slightly better than average.
the hooks do a good job of keeping them in place while working out.
