I had a set of similar buds, but when the wiring got damaged, I bought these. They have a volume control and a mute slide switch - I wanted these features because my old set had them. The volume is plenty loud when adjusted to maximum. The one thing I don't like as much are the rubbery tabs (in the photo they are clear curves below each bud) - they are supposed to wrap around your ear to help keep the buds in place. My old set did not have them or need them. These can get a little irritating after a while if you do wrap them around your ear.
I like the compactness though - I keep them in my laptop case when I travel and they do not get damaged.

They work perfectly with every internet VoIP program I've tried. The wires seems more resistant of all the others I have, in other models the wire it's really soft and finally, with the time) the mic doesn't work (or the headset). In this one, the wires are stiffer and thicker (at least the plastic coverage) so I expect they are more durable.
