Great Buy for a first time GPS Buyer July 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
WHY DID I WANT THIS MODEL? I got this as a Combo Christmas & Birthday present from my boyfriend. I asked for a GPS unit that was easy to use because I was tired of calling my boyfriend when I was lost to ask him to look up directions on a Yahoo or MapQuest to guide me to my locations. I am self employed and the nature of my work sometimes include me going to clients homes -- and I wanted to be able to get to their house without turning around when I thought I went to far and I knew if I could conserve on precious gas and minimize my frustration driving, I'd be a happier woman. WHY TOM TOM over other Units? I asked TOM TOM and GARMIN user which they perfered -- usually it came down to price and TOM TOM had better features for the same price. THIS GPS UNIT IS AWESOME -- My boyfriend did program it for me -- because it was my gift, he wanted me to be able to put it in the car and go. ACCESSORY PIECES I OWN AND WHY I LOVE THEM I have the adaptar piece for the car phone charger as well as the computer link accessory. The car charger prevents it the battery from dying -- although it does last about 6 hours without being plugged into the car charger and whenever I come home, I take it in my home and plug it up to my computer. When my boyfriend picked me up from the airport with the unit in the car -- I pulled it off the plug and was able to play with it's basic features with ease. I have used it daily for the past 7 months -- I plan routes like to my job downtown and back home -- which has helped me be on time more often because I really know how long the trip takes and can take short cuts to save time but I have also used my unit for long distance driving trips in Flordia, NYC, Connecticut, Deleware and other places that I was not familiar with and the maps were accurate, cut down my driving time because I wasn't lost and "Points of Interest" known as POI's in my unit helped me stop to find an ATM or Gas Station. I have used the Favorites feature and saved my friends and family addresses and can plan multiple trip route. I play recreational softball and soccer and one time, was able to locate a softball park without having the address using my unit. OTHER PROS AND CONS My only frustration is when I don't know the name of the town I'm going too -- or when the address I have for where I'm going -- insn't located within the GPS map. (I never bought the TomTom Plus service) and I haven't used the IPOD Control (I think it's better to play in my car speakers than the gps unit speaker) but I have used the bluetooth phone feature and it's really cool. Of course, people complain that they can't hear me if the gps unit breaks up -- but other than that I love it.
