Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The Mio DigiWalker C230 is a stylish and pocket-sized navigation device equipped with updated, preloaded US maps on internal memory, plus text-to-speech voice prompts. The Digiwalker talks to you as you drive and lets you keep your eyes on the road. The turn-by-turn navigation uses street names and landmarks as well as distance measures, eliminating any possible confusion as to where to go. For example, instead of saying "Turn right in 200 feet," the Mio c230 will say "Turn right on Broadway in 200 feet." The C230 requires no additional map data, and it's ready to use right out of the box! Delivering incredible performance and an intuitive interface, the C230 is your ideal companion for the road ahead.Delivering incredible performance and an intuitive interface, the C230 is your ideal companion for the road ahead. 1 out of 5 stars It has outdated maps!   November 18, 2008
This unit comes with 2005 maps from the manufacturer and MIO does not have map updates for this unit. Do NOT purchase this device if you intend to drive on any road that has been built since 2005.

We recently went through South Carolina and the unit thought we were driving through fields when my atlas from Walmart had the roads on it.

5 out of 5 stars Mio c230 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator - good device for a low price   November 16, 2008
It's fast, you don't need to wait for satellite detection or for route recalculation. You only need to upgrade the software and the maps, because they are a little old - you're missing POIs and new roads. The possibility to add speed cams or red light cams is perfect for me. Also the capacity to read roads names is usefully. Highly recommend it.

2 out of 5 stars Right price, poor performance...   November 4, 2008
I bought this GPS based on the price and a couple positive reviews. After two weeks of use, it went back to the seller. A few of the more annoying points that led to the return:

1) This unit will sporadically "reboot" while in-use. This is VERY frustrating when you're driving down a busy interstate and your exit is less then a half-mile away.
2) This unit picks some of the most unreasonable routes to your destination. Luckily, I knew where I was going. I would not depend on this GPS in an unfamiliar area.
3) The points of interest database is EXTREMELY limited. It couldn't locate a Wal-Mart or Target withing 30 miles of my house. There are two or three within 10 miles.
4) When you decide to go off-route and take a different way to your destination, it insists you do a u-turn and get back on the original route much more frequently then re-routing your trip. (see #2 as to why this is gets old fast)

I'd agree with other reviewers who said the interface is somewhat confusing to navigate. I found that after using it for about three-days in my car, I knew what I was doing and could use the different features without a problem. When it did pick a good route, it didn't always get me to the precise address, but it always got me close enough to find it. All in all, I'd say invest a little more for a better-known brand. I wish I would have.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent GPS Navigator   October 30, 2008
Mio c 230 GPS Navigator is the excellent product that I am using. It's easy to find out the direction while you are planning to go somewhere as long as you have the address. Some features I haven't used it even. There are some favorite places saved in it you don't even need to know the address e.g. airports. I don't have to worry about going to Mapquest to get the direction and print out. Mio is good enough.....

1 out of 5 stars Do not buy it.   October 5, 2008

1.Screen goes black 3 to 4 times a day and then it displays "FATAL ERROR" it then takes about 25 seconds for it to reboot and recalculate.
2.Its accuracy is 950 feet. When I miss a turn I travel 950 feet before the GPS realizes I have missed the turn. All Garmin models are accurate to 35 feet.
3.The turn-by-turn voice stutters. She cant spit out a street name.
4.The time zones don't make any sense at all. Apparently my time zone is in Bolivia... (when I live in D.C.) but every night at nine o'clock Bolivia's time zone goes forward three hours. So then I have to set the time zone to Eastern Europe.
5.The compass is completely wrong, when I am traveling east, it says I'm going west. Whenever I'm traveling west, it says im going south, and whenever I'm traveling north it says I'm traveling west.
6.When I turn it off and leave it off for more than a week the battery runs out and I have to let it charge. And while its charging it constantly tells me that my battery is low.
7.I liked the POI feature a lot on this gadget. That is the main reason why I bought it. But in the millions of points of interest it says it has It cannot search for the following; Wal-Mart, K-mart, Gold's Gym, YMCA, Giant, Food Lion, Bloom, Chipotle, Ace Hardware, Quantico Marine Base, Rayburn building, Cannon Building, Longworth building, Verizon center, Verizon stores, VER, KFC, and target.
8.Finally the stupid thing takes over three minutes to pick up satellites. Even when I am out in the middle of an open field.
