Product Description Add magicJack Telephone Adapter to your PC and you can make telephone calls within the USA and Canada for FREE! Skype uses a peer-to-peer network, whereas magicJack uses a dedicated telephone networkOther VoIP carriers do not have dedicated telephone networks, and lease this service from other companies. That means higher costs and poorer reliability. magicJack uses its own dedicated telephone network. You can use magicJack with either a regular telephone handset, or with a headset. You can also use both, and switch between the two. You can move magicJack between Internet providers. You can use magicJack from anywhere in the world (where broadband web access is available). It requires - PC - Windows XP or Vista operating system; (Mac/Apple expected soon); Broadband, high-speed internet, cable internet, DSL - WiFi - WiMax magicJack comes with an easy-to-use device to allow you to use a regular telephone handset. Service is free for 1st year. $20 per year thereafter.

It will take Magic to make it work! It's a horrible product. July 29, 2010 Angela We purchased Magicjack and I have never been so frustrated with a piece of technology as I have with this product. It is fraught with problems. My husband loves to troubleshoot IT matters and even he has become exhausted with MagicJack. It is simply not reliable. Sometimes you make outbound calls and they never go through. Sometimes they do go through but you never hear the person you are calling answer. What's worse is that the person you are calling keeps receiving your calls but can't hear you. I have annoyed numerous colleagues by calling them (and they have caller ID and know it's me) but they can't hear me. I eventually would abandon MagicJack and use an alternative phone. Another annoying repeat problem is that when I get someone's voicemail system my message is abruptly stopped short because of some bizarre interaction between MagicJack and voicemail systems. I have tested this by calling the same voicemail system with my cell phone and the problem does not repeat itself. There are other problems as well such as the simple failure of MagicJack to call a number that I have dialed.
In sum, this product is unreliable. It takes Magic to make to make it work.
Ok product but has it's problems July 28, 2010 CC Magic Jack is an ok product but it has it's problems. I live in a rural area and I have a broadband connection. Most of my calls are clear and I have little problems; however, when I try to call a number that is issued by a locally owned phone company, I quickly get a busy signal and the Magic Jack will not connect to that number. The MJ company seems to have everything working fine for major phone company numbers but not for private phone companies. I cannot call anyone that is in my locality which is annoying. If you live in a well populated area and you have no need to call rural numbers, then Magic Jack is a good alternative to a land line. I ended up having to get a land line simply because I needed to make local calls. I got on the "Live Chat" on Magic Jack's web site but they told me that an update was due though they could not tell me when. Review all the phone numbers that you call before you buy.
Great product July 25, 2010 Hcox I ordered this product because I live in an area where I have very poor cell phone signal and refuse to pay the high prices for digital phone. I have a decent Dell PC(2yrs old) and this product works great with it. It does have its down falls, like the PC has to be on so the SW can run and like anything that uses the internet you have to have high speed for it to work well. I have had no problems with the quality and I really like the voice mails going to my email and with my BlackBerry I can receive my home VM's on the go all time. I highly recommend this to anyone with a good high speed internet connection. I actually use this as well as a VOIP box for my cell phone on the same PC and the same internet and I have had no reduction in quality for either device, or in my internet for my laptop. Thank you MagicJack for giving me a home phone that works and that I can afford.
Good invention for saving money on phone bill July 20, 2010 Kyaw S. Wang Nice and easy to use. It's worth the money especially you make a lot of local and long distance calls.
magicJack works for me! June 30, 2010 Jon P. Gutek 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am a new magicJack user. It works. Please note that the one star and other negative reviews tend to be from 2008. Perhaps magicJack improved their system since then. Jon Gutek, JD/CPA. Written June 30, 2010.
