Garbage - STAY AWAY November 25, 2008 The 1st Mailmate I bought broke after 4months. I'm taking the replacement back today; it broke after less than 3 months. Do not buy this shredder.
Waste of money... November 11, 2008 After reading all the other negative reviews, I guess I can say that I'm glad I'm not the only one. I have owned this shredder since December 2006 and while that may seem like a long time, I was VERY easy on it and used it minimally and carefully. It was $69.99 when I purchased it (at Staples, not Amazon) and I didn't care what it said I could use it for, I was going to baby it so it would last a long time. It says you can put credit cards through it - I never did. It says you can put CDs through it - I never did. It says that you can put staples and paper clips through it - I never did. And I never even did the one thing that it says it's designed for - shredding whole, unopened junk mail. I was careful to never put anything more than four sheets thick through it - like if you folded a paper twice - and even that was rare. I tried to stick to two or three sheets thick. Since the opening is so small, you have to fold a regular 8 1/2 X 11 sheet in half lengthwise in order to fit, so that fold creates two sheets. That was the most common shredding that I did and I was careful not to spend more than a few minutes at a time shredding. Oh, and I only used it once or twice a week. Well, on the day it died (yesterday), I had only begun shredding. I had only put a few sheets through and then bam, nothing. No motor, no light, no nothing. I thought maybe it was an issue with the connection so I unplugged it and even plugged it into a different outlet - still nothing. When my husband got home, he thought he'd take a look at it. He said, "There's probably a fuse to the motor in there that's blown." Reasonable enough, so I let him have a go at it. Well, needless to say, he beat the thing up just trying to get it open and finally gave up. "Unbelievable!, he says, They've sealed the thing up so you can't even get into it." So that's that. I bought a seventy-dollar shredder, babied the heck out of it, and it died without warning. I mean really, you can't imagine how easy I was on this shredder. I owned it for almost two years, but really only gave it a few months worth of use... and gentle use at that. The warranty is only good for a year and you can't open it to fix it yourself so now it's just a worthless piece of junk.
Do not buy! November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Just like the other reviews it stopped working after not shutting off. They expect you to ship back a shredder at your expense! I will never buy a Staples product again....
DO NOT buy this shredder October 13, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used this shredder once and it stopped working the next day. The motor sputtered after little minimal usage. This is definitely a piece of junk and a waste of money. You get what you paid for. At least Staples refunded my money and now i'm looking at other shredders...
Don't Buy~! September 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My wife purchased this shredder for my birthday in May '08. Since then two of them have stopped working under very little usage. The motors just stop working. I love the idea, but this item is worthless!
