Product Description Cross-Cut and Strip-Cut Shredders. Every office of any size needs a shredder; these are perfect for first-time purchasers. Security experts recommend we shred all discarded personal data and financial information. If this is your first time buying a shredder, decide if you want security over speed: Confetti (cross) model cuts office material into tiny particles for more security; the strip cutter works faster and is adequate for non-sensitive documents and junk mail. Both shred credit cards and staples, and have safety shutoff when bins are removed.`CEBC8 has a 4.9 gal. integrated wire mesh bin.`CEBS14 has a 6.5 gal. plastic bin.

Not bad ... for an 8 sheet unit April 11, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I originally bought one of these for home use, and it was initially adequate for my needs at the time. It has a transparent mesh pail, which is handy for seeing how close to full it is, and the hopper is wide enough, and conveniently slanted inward, to feed easily, and it does a decent job of low-capacity shredding ... and it's short enough to fit under one's desk. For what it is, it's actually a pretty decent unit.
However, when my parents passed away a few years back, my needs rapdily exceeded its meager capacity ... it tended to overheat after only 1-2 mins of heavy shredding (and it needed 5-10 mins to cool back down), it tended to jam fairly easily with stapled documents of 6+ pages, and it's modestly sized pail needed to be emptied too frequently. Also, the mesh pail allowed paper dust to pass through, which can be an issue if you have allergies and need to shred lots of old documents. For a while, I actually had to use two of these units in tandem, and I'd jump from one to the other when one overheated. Eventually, I burned one of them out, and the other was eventually replaced with a better unit. At the time, I found myself frequently wishing for a 10+ sheet capacity, a stronger motor that overheated less, and a larger pail.
Meanwhile, if you need a light duty shredder, this one is fine ... but for anything more than light everyday use, I recommend looking for something beefier.
p.s. This unit can handle one credit card at a time. It can also shred a CD, although it tends to struggle a bit.
