All-in-one piece of junk December 29, 2008 The salesman at Best Buy made this printer look like a dream machine and cheap to operate, too. I've had nothing but problems with this from the day I bought it. I should have returned it and done a little research instead of dealing with this headache of a printer. It stinks as a document scanner, it's unreliable as a fax and makes only mediocre copies.
Will not print Adobe pdf files December 24, 2008 My brother's 5500 will only print the last page of any pdf document in Adobe Reader 8 or 9. He has new iMac with latest version of OS 10.5. We have consulted Kodak's chat line and spent hours browsing for any type of solution. If you switch the documents to Mac PREVIEW they print fine.
Terrible Product November 23, 2008 The print head has failed three times in the 18 months we have owned this printer. A low price and cheap ink do not make up for a printer that just flat out does not work.
Do not buy this product. This printer stands out for all the wrong reasons. Lesson learned to stick with a manufacturer who understands the printer business. Kodak clearly does not.
If I had known I would not have bought it !! October 19, 2008 As soon as i received this printer I installed it and for less than 30 minutes it worked perfect, I was very pleased. And than suddenly after the 6th picture I printed I got an error messase saying that the printhead is not inserted or has come loose and to "call service - Error 3809" I went on the internet to search for this error number and I found that many people that bought this item also had the same problem as soon as they started using it. If I had known I would not have bought it and loose my money. Now I have a lot of picture on my camera and no printer. KODAK should be ashamed to produce and sell a printer with this kind of problem !!!
I'm definitely impressed with the Kodak Easyshare 5500 AIO October 13, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I should first explain that I'm in my mid-40s and have been using personal computers and printers for the last 25 or so years and I'm very good with troubleshooting the usual issues that arise with the related equipment. That being said, I haven't experienced any major issues with this Kodak 5500 all-in-one (AIO) printer, which I've been using for about a month now.
I'm running Windows Vista 64-bit on an HP Pavilion M9200T (Intel quad processor) with 6 GB RAM (although I just added 2 GB RAM so I was running the printer with 4 GB)...I'm sharing the printer on my home network (with a USB A/B switch). The other PC that's always hooked up the same way (aside from a couple of laptops) is an HP Pavilion M9350z (AMD quad processor) with 4 GB RAM, also with Vista 64-bit.
Everything on the 5500 AIO printer works as it should. The duplexer works great!...the document printing works great!...the photo printing works great! (I love the dedicated 4x6 photo paper tray!)...the document feeder and scanner work great!...the memory card reader works great!...the ink usage is great!...the price is great!
The only teeny-tiny issue that arose was with the software-the bi-directional communication wasn't working as it should (I couldn't see the ink levels, and the PC thought the printer was printing when it was). I knew it wasn't any big deal but still wanted to correct that so I went out to Kodak's Web site, downloaded and installed the updated drivers/software and the printer's firmware. Everything has been perfect ever since.
Folks, I honestly cannot find any negative comments about this printer, and certainly none that even come close to previous complaints from other users (NO, I do not work for Kodak or any of its affiliates).
