Stay away from this printer!! November 14, 2008 This is one of the worst printers I have ever purchased. First off, the HP paper that came with the printer jams very easily. Second, sometimes when I remove the jammed paper, the printer prints everything all over again. So when I had a 15 page report, I think used more than 25 pages. Third, the ink runs out too quickly. I brought new ink a month ago, and now I need more ink. It sucks to be a student that needs to print reports.
"Office Space" ending for this printer. October 23, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The Highs: -Prints on both sides automatically (if you set it to do so). -Wireless printing. -Print quality, even on draft settings, is very good.
The Lows: -Loud. Extremely loud. Loudest printer I've ever heard. -Slow. Very slow. Slowest printer I've ever used. -Paper jams. Many paper jams. A paper jam every time I print. -Software takes half an hour to install and is very buggy.
The Verdict: No level of print quality is worth this much frustration.
When I first installed this printer, the software took at least 20 minutes to install. This wouldn't be a bad thing in itself but in light of how poorly the software operates, it's unacceptable. The software also has a tendency to uninstall itself unless you perform a manual update (even though it is supposed to automatically check for updates). On my computer, the pop-up that alerts you that the printer is connected will occasionally continue to give repeated alerts for several minutes.
The noise level is so high when printing that I try not to use it after my girlfriend has gone to sleep for fear of waking her.
The time between when the print job has been initiated to when the sheet actually comes out of the printer can sometimes be a few minutes. The printer has long, complex and noisy start-up and shutdown routines consisting of numerous whirs, buzzes and spinning motor sounds that it must perform for every print job.
Jams Often October 20, 2008 I get a paper jam when I initially try to print something new literally about one out of every two attempts. This is very frustrating. I literally get a paper jam half of every attempted print job. However, that being said, I do like the printer otherwise. It has good print quality, prints both sides, is relatively fast, a good scanner, and super easy ink replacement. It is kind of loud when printing. If this thing did not jam, I would say it is the perfect college/home printer. The jamming problem is a biggie though and severely detracts from overall satisfaction on this printer.
Would give ZERO stars if possible October 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This printer is HORRIBLE. Don't buy an HP printer unless you want it-and the hp software- to TAKE OVER your computer
Would Be A Four Star Printer EXCEPT... October 5, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This would be an excellent printer were it not for a single problem.
The constant PAPER UPSIDE DOWN ERROR. When I'm printing DVD labels I use images and the printer scans the paper looking for photo paper. The only problem is I use matte labels so each and every time it thinks the labels are upside down when in fact they are not.
Now you can get past the sensor by using the low quality print setting but then the finished label looks terrible. And there doesn't seem to be any way to override this feature.
So now I have a really smart, really expensive printer that is pretty much useless as printing these labels is one of the main reasons I bought it.
Here us a tip for HP, if you are gonna make products that have all these smart features, maybe have a way to turn them OFF when they aren't so smart after all.
