too small, two stars November 15, 2008 This is in some ways obviously an amazing deal - and there is another version that Amazon strangely doesn't carry whereby you get three 1 gb jump drives for the price of one. They're small, don't come with too much irritating software like the Sandisk Cruzer [see my review!] and work great. They have a very simple plastic cover that rotates to give them some protection but not much can go wrong with this. And they are as cheap per bit of storage as you can get. So you can get a handful and always have one around. They come in different colors so you can use different ones for different things. This one seems to have the same insides, with a somewhat more sturdy casing, and it is in only a little bit bigger, with the nice feel of the classic Memorex travel drive series.
I guess the only thing to ask is whether you really WANT to have lots of information easily and cheaply stored in little bits of plastic you don't think twice about. With a more expensive piece of equipment, like one of those WD passports, you really keep an eye on it. But with these things, you grab one or two and don't really think about them. A few end up going through the washing machine and if you are missing one, it doesn't stand out.
This is fine for many purposes, but it leads to serious security problems. You get in the habit of leaving them around and not keeping track. "Did I put all the secret stuff on the red one or the blue one? Doesn't matter, here's another red! And another blue!" So before you decide to go for the flock of Memorex 1GB, make sure you know who is in your house and you can trust. And you can trust me on this one! [56]
Well, it WAS good... February 27, 2008 My grandpa got me this USB drive for Christmas, and for a while it worked really well. I never had huge issues with it, though I never understood what the U3 software was supposed to do. One day, I was trying to transfer some videos onto my MacBook, and it wouldn't work (though it had worked on my MacBook for the past couple of months) while trying to find the problem, I ended up deleting everything off of my flash drive, including the U3 software. Now I can't use the drive at all between any other computers. I don't know if it's because of my MacBook or the lack of U3 software, but it's obnoxious. I looked up the U3 website and I could find nothing to help me out with my problem. I'm getting a new USB Drive, and I'm avoiding U3 at all costs.
Good Drive, Annoying Software December 20, 2007 I really like my little Memorex drive. It works great with macs (the software doesn't install, it just shows up on your desktop as a disc that you can completely ignore) and it's never lost or corrupted any of my data. I go to a college that primarily uses PCs, so it was important that my drive be compatible with both operating systems. I have found that this drive works pretty well for that. As other reviewers have noted, the U3 software is really annoying but not that big a deal. I've noticed that the drive is a little funky with Windows Vista, but it still works fine and my data has been safe and everything's okay. I would definitely recommend this drive. The software is more annoying than anything else.
excellent October 11, 2007 This product is great. i am very pleased on how i received my product quickly.
Reliable May 25, 2007 I have this Mini Drive and the original 1 gb Jump Drive by memorex. For this one Just remove the U3 Software. Google U3 Software Removal and you'll get a link to remove the U3 junk from the jump drive. I don't know what they are thinking installing this U3 on the Jump drive. Once its removed It will work like a regular Jump Drive and be very reliable. All I can say is that this model is much better then the first one memorex had two years ago. Only Con I can think of is that: 1. Cap easy to lost for careless people 2. So Small I tend to misplace it
