Amazon.com Product Description Ubisoft brings you the freedom of the mountains with Shaun White Snowboarding for Xbox 360. Developed in close collaboration with Olympic Gold Medalist Shaun White, Shaun White Snowboarding lets you create your own experience in the game. Whether you choose to compete and do tricks in the terrain park, or carve new paths in the back country, the choice is yours.
Get massive air and perform different tricks. View larger. |
You can shoot videos and upload them for others to see. View larger. | Freedom to Ride on Four Different Mountains Gamers have their choice of four mountains -- Alaska, Park City, Europe (Alps), and Japan -- each offering a different kind of terrain and feel, as well as landscapes and views. Alaska, for example, has a lot of peak boarding with features such as avalanches and ice chasms. Park City, the famed resort in Utah, features buildings and layouts from the actual resort. The mountains are huge, with incredible graphics that allow you to see dynamic elements up to 20 miles away. As you ski, objects and locations far away in the distance, such as the base of the mountain, become larger and larger, and the background has the feel of a real, live environment rather than a static image. Within each mountain, there are peak, back country, and park (resort) areas that provide a variety of gameplay. Just as you would expect, there are plenty of trails on each mountain, with each slope rated from green circle (easy) to double black diamond (extremely difficult). Race, Do Tricks, Carve New Paths Shaun White Snowboarding lets you do anything you want at a mountain: you can speed down the fastest slopes, get massive air and do tricks on the half-pipe, and even throw snowballs at other boarders. By using a combination of the right analog stick and left trigger, you can perform a ton of different tricks on the ground, in the air, and on rails. The game was designed with realistic physics, so each trick looks and performs just as you'd expect it to see it in real life. While you go down a mountain, you'll see various challenges scattered along the way, such as grinding on rails or specific tricks on the half-pipe. When you get to the bottom, you can take off your board and hop on a chair or a helicopter to get back to the top and find a new trail. In the single player mode, Shaun White serves as your mentor as you complete different challenges and competitions until you become good enough to put your skills up against Shaun White himself. Share the Mountain with Other Online Players Shaun White Snowboarding also features online multiplayer gameplay. Players can create their own challenges and participate with other online boarders, compete in half-pipe competitions, and even battle it out in straight racing down a trail. With mountains populated by real gamers, you'll feel like you're really out there on the slopes. A standout feature is the video camera that lets you film other boarders doing tricks and upload them for everyone to see. As you win competitions and do challenges, you earn cash that can be used to purchase new apparel, boards, bindings, and more -- all designed to make your character unique and your gaming experience more fun. Perhaps one of the most satisfying things you can do is hurl a snowball at another player and talk a little trash afterwards.

Best Snowboarding Game! November 25, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
The game play in Shaun White snowboarding is excellent. Definately the best snowboarding game created up to this point. The game is loads of fun. There are 4 different large mountains with a ton of challenges for solo and multiplayer play. There is also a huge selection of gear boards, bindings, jackets, hats, etc.. You can take the chair lift or jump out of the helicopter. You can do pretty much all the tricks in the real world in this game, including flatland tricks. The realism is unprecedented and extremely enjoyable at the same time. The game even has avalanches that you can outrun or be swallowed up by.
If you want to take a break from doing tricks the game even has races for Single player and multiple players..
All in all this a great game, i recommend it for any one that enjoys snowboarding or skateboarding games, or for people looking for a new kind of gaming experience..

Shaun White Snowboarding is finally here! No more ridiculously impossible stunts, it's time for physics that hold up to science. Many slam White as an undeserved poster child for snowboarding, but the fact is that he's great at what he does and he obviously picks his endorsements carefully. This is a game that is worthy of the name of a great sports figure. If I were him I would be proud to have my name associated with this game.
Hey Shaun! Learn to Ride! November 18, 2008 1 out of 24 found this review helpful
Have you seen First Descent? Yes, Shaun White doesn't know how to ride, nor does he know how to endorse video games. This game flat out sucks. You're better off with Coolboarders for the PS1. Shaun, stop spinning in the air and learn how to really snowboard. No wonder why no real snowboard videos have you in them. Hope you win more golds in the X-Games, but when it comes to real, non-competition riding, learn how to do it. I hope the game endorsed by Absynth is good. This soundtrack is driving me nuts. I gotta' turn it off now. Glad I rented this one.
the best snowboarding game for REAL snowboarders November 17, 2008 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
As an avid gamer and snowboarder, I felt that this game has been unfairly assessed by critics and gamers. For the reviewers who gave Shaun White a low score, I often wonder have they ever even snowboarded before?
If you're a gamer looking for a snowboarding game in the vein of SSX you're going to be dissapointed. Luckily, that isn't what this game is about. I've been snowboarding for 7 years, and have been waiting for a game that captures the spirit of what snowboarding is all about. To date of the 3 most popular snowboarding games: SSX, Amped, and 1080, they focus on either one or the other: racing or obtaining the highest score possible on a linear path.
Here's a quick summary of what you should expect:
Gamers will hate:
- the controls (they take a while to get used to) and they should be customizable - half pipes and impossible tricks are missing - runs have no straightforward path
Snowboarders will love:
+ you can choose any path on the mountain you want (almost no boundaries) + Graphics are the best yet with the Assasin's Creed Engine + Hitting challenges with friends over xbox live or psn + Having a plethora of real merchandise to customize your character to match the gear you actually wear + No fake tricks (ie SSX), pulling 360 rodeos in the game feel realistic and fulfilling + 4 mountains to choose from (Europe, Park City, Japan, Alaska) that allow you to carve down the entire mountain any way you please + backcountry, gaps, and lips to explore + physics are for the most part accurate. Uses havoc technology for the momentum of the tricks, and speed (gravity) you travel down a mountain. Characters have a weight to them.
In the end, this isn't the perfect snowboarding game that it could have been. There could be a bit more polish (controls should be completely customizable, interface and animation could have been a bit smoother) But, this is by far the best snowboarding game I have ever played. I highly recommend Shaun White Snowboarding for xbox 360 or ps3 with the caveat that you snowboard and play videogames, if you're a gamer expecting a Tony Hawk snowboarding game look elsewhere.
Bad, Bad, Bad November 17, 2008 5 out of 19 found this review helpful
I was excited for Shaun White Snowboarding because there hasn't been a good next gen snowboarding game yet. Unfortunately, there still isn't.
It has nice level design, but they got the rest of the game wrong. The physics are very awkward. It doesn't feel right and, as a result, it's not fun.
If you liked the last couple Tony Hawk games it may be worth checking out, otherwise just buy Amped 2 or wait to see if Stoked is any better.
