Product Description Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots PS3
Amazon.com Product Description Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, is a next-gen experience complete with top-of-the-line graphics and surround sound designed for the Sony PlayStation 3. Featuring the most revealing display of Kojima Production's premier title, MSG4 details the world where Snake must under go his final mission. In a world overrun by private military companies (PMCs), wars are no longer fought over nations or ideologies. Instead, the wars of the future are micro-managed by overarching PMCs, right down to the bullet. New gadgets and abilities fuel Snake's journey deep into the enemy domains of the Middle East, South America, and beyond. New gear includes "Metal Gear Mk. II," the ultimate reconnaissance tool, and "Solid Eye," which gives Snake real-time information on enemies and his surroundings.

Octacamo will help Snake blend into surroundings. View larger. | Joined by a familiar cast of characters, Snake must once again return to the battlefield to confront his lifelong rival, Liquid Ocelot, who is manipulating the world's wars from the one world where soldiers will always have a place. But Liquid Ocelot is not the only one who will be able to manipulate the world's wars--Snake can destabilize opposing forces by working behind the scenes, supporting the local militia as they fight PMCs, creating a smokescreen that allows Snake to move freely within the war-zone. MGS4 is a next-generation adventure set in the aftermath of MGS2: Sons of Liberty. The concept behind the latest Metal Gear Solid project is "no place to hide," and this edition in the series will force Snake into unexpected circumstances with an all-new storyline that breaks away in some ways from the previous MGS franchise entries. We don't want to spoil it for you, but, producer Hideo Kojima did reveal some very juicy tidbits about the game and the storyline when it was first announced at E3 of 2006. "Until now," said Kojima, "we've released two entries of the MSX2 Metal Gear series, and three entries in the Metal Gear Solid series. Add to this Portable Ops, and you get a total of six titles. All mysteries will be cleared up in Metal Gear Solid 4." Kojima was very clear about the finality of MSG4, leaving gamers to wonder, "Will Snake die?!" When asked if the story will come to this sort of an end, Kojima responded without the slightest bit of vagueness, "It will come to an end." The MGS4 E3 trailer showed a number of characters from the Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid histories. This final installment is sure to deliver loads of cameos, in fact, it is rumored that nearly all the characters from the series will make an appearance. In addition to a return of classic Metal Gear Solid characters, the gameplay systems from part three are also expected to make a comeback. The camouflage system from part three will make it into MGS4, with the addition of "OctoCamo," Snake's most advanced stealth suit to date. The name appears to be formed from the words "Octopus" and "camoflauge," and players will be awestruck by the chameleon-like camo that changes with the surroundings. OctoCamo allows Snake to blend in with his environment as it digitally manifests nearby textures in real time. Think if it this way, if Snake is standing next to a wall worn out with holes, he too will appear to be riddled with holes. It has also been revealed that MGS4 will have online play, but no specifics have been released. Although very little information is known about the game's visuals, rumor has it that MGS4 is expected to be the finest representation of console graphics on the PS3, and it is expected that they will just get better and better as the game nears its release date.

Not Just A Game, An Emotional Experience September 30, 2008 I have never been so moved by a video game in my life. Considering my +20 years of gaming experience that's no small statement.
MGS4 has among the best graphics, sound and music of any game on consoles today. The controls are functional, the voice acting is great, the pacing is perfect.
Where MGS4 really shines is the story and the characters. The entire Metal Gear saga is acknowledged, picked apart, and fused expertly into an epic tale that entertains every step through. The characters are phenomenal, I loved seeing old favorites appear, and was pleasantly surprised to see others I totally didn't expect. There's action, humor, drama, terror, surprises...everything you could want in a cinematic game. MGS4 shows incredible detail in every facet of it's being, rivaling most major Hollywood films in overall quality. The effort put forth here is staggering. You get the impression the developers poured their hearts and souls into it. On a side note, perhaps due to my oversensitivity, the music during the final end credits actually made me weep.
If I HAD to take issue with anything, perhaps it would be the characters' facial expressions; they're a little flat. You'll notice they emote a little, but it's clear developers haven't totally mastered the art of moving hi-res model faces enough to convey convincing passion...yet. I only noticed it because everything else is so perfect. Also, the game is a little short, but that's in stride with the other games in the series. When you're taking your time through it (which you should) the game doesn't feel short.
Thus far, Metal Gear Solid 4 is my reason for owning a PlayStation3. If you enjoy games of epic quality it'll be yours, too.
An excellent end to a saga September 29, 2008 I am a huge MGS fan and have been since the early days. I do not own a PS3, I borrowed it from my buddy just for this experience, but I have to say that I am impressed. The game play is excellent and the storyline is as engrossing as ever. I got hooked out of the gate and even my wife who is not a fan of video games found herself engrossed right along with me. The only real complaint that I have is the lengthy cut scenes that appear throughout the game and at times are a bit annoying. The ending set of cut scenes are far too long and the explanations and story are a touch repetitive at times. Overall this game is a must have for any fan of MSG the throw backs are nostalgic and the revisiting of characters is fun and exciting. Excellent game!!

Guns of the Awesome September 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is, without doubt, the best MGS game to ever exist... if you have just purchased your PS3, you need a game that will push it to the limit. In fact, Otacon occasionally points out how awesome the PS3 is.
Everyhing about it is awesome. Each act (I think there are 8 in total) has a different element of gameplay. Long cutscenes, but this time they're jam-packed full of action! Trust me, you wont be skipping many cutscenes in this game. Cool gadgets, a great weapon system, occasional humor, etc... The story is gripping and intense. The climax at the end is incredible... it will leave you on the edge of your couch until the very end.
Could not be cheesier! September 27, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
I have never written a review before. However, I just had to with this game. The game play was typical MGS. No problems there.
But the story and cut scenes were UNBEARABLE!!! I mean there was a wedding! Are you kidding me?!!! The plot and story were definitely written by geeky software engineers. Have any of them ever been with a women before? I'm also blown away with the sexism in it. Every girl needed to be saved by a man and they were always crying. (I'm male by the way.)If this was a movie, it would be straight to DVD. Not even Blu-ray! To some degree I had fun playing it, so I gave it 3 stars. I ended up just skipping most of the cut scenes half way through the game. It was just soooo cheesey. I mean I am blown away that the story and plot were released for the public to see. Its as if a child wrote the story line. Its embarrassing! I know I said this before but... THERE IS A WEDDING in this video game. WHAT!!!??? I am I alone here?
